    update

    January 20, 2014
Planning for Avery's Ride for PKU is coming along well. We have a new name for the website which is rideforpku.ca, and the site is pretty much done with a just few edits and changes to be made. Thanks to Radiant who has been really helpful in getting the site up and running. Check them out at thinkradiant.com for any web based needs you may have. We also have some volunteers falling into place who are going to be running events in the towns we will ride through to help raise awareness and money for PKU. I'm encouraged by the positive response and the event is not even officially launched yet. I think my biggest stress now is trying to arrange a vehicle and potential drivers for the 70 days we are on the road. It’s a lot of commitment but I am hopeful that this will all work out. Training is coming along. I have not been riding as much this week as we have a sick little girl at home who is keeping us up at night quite a bit but she is getting better so once she is sleeping well again I will be starting with 5am bike rides in my basement. Riding a bike in a basement will not only train you physically but also mentally as it is not the nicest place to bike for an extended period of time. I am also working my way thorugh a workout program I have done in the past that will hopefully help get me strong enough to ride across Canada. This weekend I will be meeting with a bike shop owner from Windsor to talk about a bike, equipment and training advice so that is pretty exciting. As the ride draws near I will try to update the blog as much as possible. Looking forward to the official launch at the end of Jan/start of Feb.
